Protest Against the CPUC Wednesday Noon – Whenever

Little has changed in the mentality of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) since the July 30 taxi protests last year.

The CPUC continues to allow Uber, Lyft & Sidecar to hide their inadequate insurance policies from the public. The CPUC still allows the TNCs to regulate themselves which is the same as not regulating them at all. The CPUC still refuses to let the City of San Francisco regulate them. The CPUC still allows them to congest and pollute the City at will.

On the other hand, Taxi Paratransit Association of California (TPAC) applied for a rehearing of the CPUC decision which will be heard by the California Public Utilities Commission this Thursday during closed session.

Wednesday's protest will be to help the CPUC see the errors of its previous decision.

The protest will be held in front to the State of California building at Mcallister & Van ness

WE DEMAND:

► A rehearing of CPUC’s decision approving ride services. The Taxi and Paratransit Association of California (TPAC) has applied for a rehearing of the CPUC’s decision allowing ride services to operate. This Thursday, the CPUC will decide whether it will hold a rehearing. We call upon the CPUC to rehear and reverse its flawed and unlawful decision.

► Full commercial livery insurance for ride service drivers. When a driver for Uber killed a little girl New Year’s Eve, the company denied responsibility. As a result, the CPUC has proposed rules changes for TNC insurance. But the proposed rules allow gaps in insurance coverage that leave the public unprotected. Ride service drivers must be required to carry commercial livery insurance providing $1 million coverage under all circumstances and at all times. Unless ride service drivers have the same insurance requirements as taxis, coverage gaps will persist, the public

will remain unprotected and drivers will have a huge incentive to commit insurance fraud.

► An immediate end to ride service vehicle leasing. A company called Breeze is leasing cars to Uber and Lyft drivers. This is an outrageous violation of the CPUC’s rules for ride services. Those rules require drivers to use their personal vehicles. We call upon the CPUC to issue an immediate Cease-and Desist Order to Breeze and any other company or individual leasing vehicles to ride service drivers. And they must enforce their Order. If they do not, San Francisco must step in and put an end to this brazenly illegal practice.
